Life's Revelations - Tay Meets World

Life's Revelations

6:00:00 AM

It's that day you wake up and realize something; something big. You realize you are not where you want to be in life. This is one of life's revelations. They happen minimally over the course of life, but when they happen, are you supposed to listen?

It's the revelation that you wasted your college career, you didn't follow your dreams, you're in a failing relationship, you're being cheated on, you have lost all of your friends, you don't recognize who you are, you are 40 and have only lived for your husband and kids, you never found your passion, never traveled the world, you have realized that you've lost yourself.

Some people might call this a mid-life crisis. When it happens before the age of 25, I call it a life revelation. What do you do? Do you pack up everything you own and go on an adventure? Do you live like you are dying? Do you stay stagnant in the life you have currently and ease forward? Do you pray and pray and pray that the decision is made for you? Do you give up? Do you make it happen? Do you do what's best for you or stay comfortable? Do you take a risk and jump off the cliff or run and stay with the known? When do you let go?

There is no answer, only the answer that you have to find yourself. That I have to find myself. You can choke back tears every hour of the day and pray that tomorrow will bring resolutions but I can't help but think life's revelations are a huge sign from God (or from whoever or what you do or don't believe in) that things need to change…that they are going to change…and they will only change when you take the first leap…and make it happen.

The first step is realizing that you aren't happy. That you aren't where you want to be in life. That you have one too many regrets about the past. The one thing you have to let go of is the past…it's over, you can't change it, but you can impact how the future will turn out. It's a blessing in itself that you realized this before you had a steady job, marriage, kids, and any other things holding you in the same spot.

It's ok to cry, I do. It's ok to freak out, I do. It's ok to have no clue as to what you want to do in life, I don't. And it's ok to take a leap of faith and do something for you…I'm still working on this part.

When you lose you, you lose everything. Your friends, family, passions, hobbies, love, happiness, excitement; it's all gone. It's easy to lose yourself; what's hard is finding you again. Any suggestions?

I don't know where to go from here. I know I need to go somewhere…other than stay here. Being a perfectionist and having life revelations do not go hand in hand; it's the over-analyzing and perfecting natures of a perfectionist that make this process longer. What I do know is I will keep praying, writing, thinking of things that make me happy, and finding out what life has to offer. Life is too short. It is way too short. I plan to spend it full of love and happiness and not waste it on the negative and depressing lulls. Today I choose to be one step closer to figuring out my life; where I want to be and who I want to be with.

Today I choose to take a leap of faith and make it happen, and I hope you do too.

  1. I went through this at age 25 and changed my career. I'd be lying if I didn't say I was still going through some of it at age 29! Take time to find what makes you happy. It's better to do it now!

  3. I think the greatest revelations happen in times when you feel vulnerable and take a chance in a career outside your comfort zone. Know that you have the support of your family and friends no matter how far away they are!

  4. Good for you! "Life revelation" sounds wayyyy better than quarter-life crisis which is how I refer to my life recently. So sorry to hear you're going through hard times but you're in a good place. You know how to move forward and you understand that you have to make changes in order to become happy again. And, you have the support of your friends, family, and by the comments I see, your followers! Good luck!
