5 Easy Routines To Help Boost Your Confidence

12:00:00 AM

I am going to make a confession. Confidence is something I have struggled with for years. I never felt good enough, pretty enough, or smart enough. No matter how hard I tried to look good, study more, to reassure myself that I was fine the way I was, I always felt inferior. I'm assuming I am not the only one who struggles with a lack of confidence. It's disheartening how so many women feel this way, myself included.
When I started my job in sales, I knew my lack of confidence was not going to cut it. Making hundreds of calls to random strangers, meeting with new customers, and understanding the business was an extremely daunting task and it still is. One thing I realized that it didn't matter what I was selling, or what business I was trying to obtain, I had to sell myself. I had to prove to people that I was worth it, and I would help them whenever they needed it. They needed (and need) to have an undoubtedly strong trust in me...and that only comes when I have that in myself.
I realized that there were some things I needed to change in my daily life to feel more confident and able. There are five routines that I have become accustomed to that ensure I wake up every morning with the feeling that I can take on any task that comes my way.

1. Meditate.
If there is one thing I have learned, confidence is about feeling good about yourself and comfortable in your own skin. One of the best ways to achieve this is by centering your thoughts and taking time for yourself. If you don't like to meditate, try a warm bubble bath, separating yourself with a good book, or exercise. I find all of these relaxing and overall, my outlook is much more positive.

2. Rotate Or Try New Perfumes
This may seem silly but it's true! We get very stuck in our ways and routines and there are times when you need a boost. There are some scents that make you feel more awake, some that make you feel pretty, some that make you feel bold. A new scent can be a powerful thing and you'll be surprised at how your confidence boosts when you feel more powerful. I recently took a quiz called "The Perfect Scent For Your Sign/Horoscope." I was happy when I saw that Coco Mademoiselle would be a good match...I think I will give this one a try!

3. Always Prepare For The Inevitable
In my opinion, there is nothing worse than showing up somewhere underprepared. It could be that you forgot something very menial such as a hair elastic, or it could be something more monumental like when you forgot to bring a feminine liner. You may not think about it often, but liners are great for staying shower fresh. I always carry a small cosmetic bag in my purse that houses my essential items. Some items I never leave home without: hair elastics, bobby pins, feminine liners and wipes (I prefer Always), Tylenol, lotion, hand sanitizer, lip gloss, compact mirror, and perfume. I feel a lot more confident when I know this bag is stocked and ready to go. I travelled on a business trip one month ago and I forgot all of the "essential" items that I desperately needed. Unfortunately, I had no time or vehicle to go buy them...it pays to be prepared, especially when you're out of your element!

4. Smile More...And Wear Lipstick!
Smiling is one of the best 'natural' ways to boost your confidence. There are occasions when I have to force a smile out but then I can't stop. I smile even more when I wear a bold, bright lipstick. Sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone to realize that you are comfortable in that zone too. Currently, my go-to gloss is 'Sophia' by Buxom. It's a great pale pink that enhances my natural lip color.

5. Take Care of Your Body
Confidence definitely radiates from within but it definitely helps when you keep your body healthy and hydrated. Regular exercise, eating right, drinking water, taking vitamins, and washing your face are my favorite ways to help my body feel good. Once I get into a routine of doing all of these, it becomes a force of habit and I naturally feel more confident.
Confidence is not something I have obtained overnight. It's still a struggle but I am one who flourishes when I have a routine.
