Products For Hydrated, Dewey And Clear Skin

This post was supposed to go up on Friday but I've been sick with the worst bug the past couple of days! As I've mentioned before, there are certain products that once I try, I will never stop buying them. The Mario Badescu line is my go-to for any skin problem that I need to fix. Whether it's redness, dark spots, acne, wrinkles, oiliness, dryness, combination added brightness, I always turn to the Mario line because it has proven to work time and time again. Pictured below, are my five essential products that I use daily to achieve hydrated, dewey and clear skin.

Enzyme Cleansing Gel $14: I use this cleanser daily paired with my Clarisonic. It's super soft on any skin type - making it a great universal cleanser. It's made up of fruit enzymes and alpha hydroxy acids that exfoliate the buildup of dead skin cells. While my skin is may not look soft and supple due to acne scarring - it definitely is because of this cleanser.

Aloe Lotion $15: Astringents can sometimes strip your skin of the natural oils that it needs so it's important to find ones that don't. I use Mario's Aloe Lotion to help reduce redness. My skin is very red after I wash it - which in turn made me layer on a lot more makeup. After I apply this astringent with a cotton pad I can walk away from the mirror for a minute and once I look again, the redness has gone down significantly. Aloe is commonly used to reduce redness in sunburns so of course it reduce red pigmentation on your face!

Oil Free Moisturizer with SPF 30 $28: It's no secret that my skin is oily. I have spent years - YEARS - searching for a moisturizer that hydrated my skin but didn't make it oily AND that had sunscreen in it. This is a lot to ask for from one product but this Oil Free Moisturizer certainly delivers. It has SPF 30 and does not make my skin oily (nor dry out my skin). It's a small bottle but a little goes a long way. A must-try if you struggle with oily skin!

Seaweed Night Cream $22: After cleansing in the evening and following with astringent I apply a facial night cream. This Seaweed Night Cream plumps and softens skin overnight - I wake up with hydrated and dewey skin.

Flower & Tonic Mask $18: This is the best mask for treating breakouts and evening skin tone. I recommend this mask to anyone who has any skin concerns - it's seriously that good!

Hair Products For Strong & Hydrated Hair

During this time of year, the air get's very dry here in Iowa (in the midwest in general). There is nothing worse than dry and damaged hair. I try to start switching up my routine earlier so I can combat whatever the weather throws at us. I look for products that aid in conditioning, strengthening, and repairing my hair. My hair is fairly healthy, however, I wear it up frequently which cause breakage, thus the strengthening product! I don't color my hair and I always use a heat protectant.

Products I Use & Love: 1. Aveda Shampure Shampoo and Conditioner: The Shampure line is one that I've tried for the past couple of months and I love how gentle it is on my locks. My hair is shinier and feels healthier whenever I use these. Not to mention the smell is ah-maz-ing! 2. It's A 10 Miracle Leave-In Plus Keratin: This is a game changer in my opinion. Not only does it act as a heat protectant, it replaces lost protein making hair stronger and healthier, restores hydration balance, defrizzes, detangles and adds shine. Believe me when I say it does all of the above. I use this on days when I wash my hair. Simply spray through sections of your hair and comb through, then dry. 3. Kevin.Murphy RE.STORE Cleansing Conditioning Treatment: I received this product in a POPSUGAR Must-Have box awhile back and have loved it ever since. I think conditioning treatments are very important - we all know Shampoo can strip your hair of the natural minerals and proteins so this helps lock those in! I use it 1-2 times a week in place of Shampoo & Conditioner. It works very well because the next day my hair is a lot more oily than usual - telling me that it's hydrated! Oh, and it's sulfate free🙌🏼 4. T3 Hair Dryer: I want to start off by saying I bought this product for a steal of a deal. I have a Costco membership and they had these hair dryers in stock for $80 (normally a $200 hair dryer)! Regardless of the price, I truly love this hair dryer. It provides quick and healthy drying.

While I try to get a trim every 4-6 months or so, my job doesn't always allow me the time. Thus, I have to use products at home that treat and protect my hair, such as the products above! Whether stand alone or combination of all them, my hair is much softer and stronger, and even more importantly, hydrated! It's forecasted to snow on Friday so thank goodness my hair is prepared🙈!

How I Treat & Prevent Acne With Clarisonic

If you were to ask me what my favorite product is that I own, it would be the Clarisonic Mia. Since I graduated high school, I have suffered from acne. Today, as an adult, I still get the occasional hormonal breakout and to treat that, I use my Clarisonic.

About seven years ago, I suffered from a horrible skin infection on my face. (You can read more about that here.) I used to be that girl that had flawless skin in high school; smooth as silk and clear from impurities. I went from that to an all-over case of cystic acne. I was humiliated and the worst part was that it was incredibly painful. I tried every kind of face product. I was on multiple topical steroids and pills but nothing seemed to work. Eventually, with all the medications, things seemed to calm down but it wasn't until I received a Clarisonic that my skin started to change. The Clarisonic Mia works to "sonic cleanse" your skin - it oscillates moving back and forth, flushing water and cleanser deep into your pores. This is truly the deepest facial cleanse you'll ever receive. It wasn't until I used this device regularly that I realized how dirty my skin was before. All of the bacteria were harbored in my pores and I wasn't able to clean it well enough to release those impurities. Now, I use the device twice daily, switching cleansing heads as necessary for what my skin needs.

The Clarisonic Mia comes with a Sonic Radiance Brush Head but my favorites are the Deep Pore Cleansing and Acne Cleansing Brush Heads. I always use the Acne brush head whenever I have a breakout - it's sensitive and delicate enough not to further erupt the inflamed area. The Deep Pore is great for when your skin is looking dull and needs rejuvenation. I like to have more than a couple on hand because they should be switched out with new heads every three months - thus, they make excellent birthday and Christmas gifts! (hint, hint mom!) Another one of my favorite Clarisonic products is the Pore and Blemish Gel Cleanser. As I mentioned before, I occasionally have hormonal breakouts around my chin and jawline, when pairing the Acne brush head and gel cleanser my face feels incredibly clean and free from impurities. This cleanser has 2% active salicylic acid so it works to treat and cure any active breakouts. Note: The gel cleanser can be drying so make sure to moisturize after use!

My skin now has changed drastically over the course of the years. My main concern is no longer acne, I deal with acne scars (or battle wounds as I think of them), pre-mature smile lines, and keeping my skin supple. My face is the most important part of my body and using products such as my Clarisonic Mia is incredibly important is treating and preventing breakouts and also preventing early aging.
